TIP 1.

Muzzle loading firearms are popular among hunters today who want to take game the way their ancestors did. Single-shot firearms force you to shoot accurately the first shot and muzzleloaders are no different. A great challenge!

TIP 2.

There are many different ways to carry a firearm so that its safe with other hunters around, yet ready for quick use. Muzzle control is most important.

The safest way to carry any firearm is in the 'ready' position (using two hands). That is, hold the forearm in one hand and the grip in the other hand. This gives you complete control of the muzzle.

Other ways to carry a firearm are:

• Cradle position (like holding a baby)
• Trail (action open and gun held under one arm - popular with shotgunners)
• Shoulder (gun is rested on the shoulder)
• and of course using a sling.

First and foremost always be conscious of where the muzzle is pointing.

TIP 3.

A pair of binoculars is essential for hunting. You can find game, check trophy size, check out the terrain up ahead, etc.

Which type of binocular you need depends on the game you are after, the type of terrain to be covered and the amount of gear you have to carry.
