Wingshooting tips, Improve accuracy with bullet seating depth gauge and Warne Quick Detachable scope mountsShooting/Hunting tips of the monthSeptember 2003 TIP 1.Familiarity with your shotgun and constant practice with the portable trap during the off season will help you fill your game bag with less shots. Always shoot one bird at a time. Don't make the mistake of firing blindly into a flock of birds. Instead, pick out on bird and swing onto it. Forget the others until you see the first one come plummeting down. Then pick out another and another. Anyone with good eyesight and steady nerves can become remarkably proficient in wingshooting in a short time.
TIP 2.The most useful tool for improving accuracy is a bullet seating depth gauge. An inexpensive and easy to use bullet depth gauge is one made by Stoney Point products (see website below). The chamber all AOL gauge from Stoney Point products allows you to determine the length of the loaded round needed to have the bullet just touch the rifling. Once this length is found, you then seat the bullets 0.010" to 0.020: shorter and test for accuracy. TIP 3.Warne quick-detachable mounts is the answer for the hunter who wants his scope easily removed. Check out Leupold as well for such mounts. European hunters often carry their scope in a pouch on the belt until they want to use it. Overseas hunters often like to remove their scope and pack it seperately for transportation to avoid damage. Quick-detachable mounts are precision made and will return the rifle to zero every time. To find out more about quick-detachable mounts, click onto: Warne Quick Detachable mounts...
