Learn about 3 Very Important Hot Weather Hunting TipsJuly 2007 TIP 1 - Wear Appropriate ClothingWarm weather hunting means wearing clothing that is not only comfortable, but keeps you cool at the same time. There is nothing worse than sweating profusely while sitting behind your hunting blind or waiting in your tree stand. Fortunately, hunting clothing specifically designed for hot weather hunting is available that makes it bearable to hunt in such conditions. I personally use Cabelas Super Mesh shirts, pants and headwear while bowhunting for hogs in the Australian outback during the summer months where temperatures can exceed 120 degrees Farenheit. Not only is this clothing super lightweight, it allows even the slightest breeze to easily flow through and cool your skin. As a bonus for hunters, it is also treated with scent eliminator to prevent your body scent from going everywhere.
TIP 2 - Hydration System for Hot Weather HuntingStaying hydrated while hunting in hot weather is super important - nothing will ruin a hunt quicker than a tired, dehydrated body. I always wear a small daypack with a hydration bladder included (ie, Camelbak or similar water pouch) that can hold 2 litres (70oz) of water. Whenever I feel thirsty, I simply grab the hose attached to the bladder, bite down on the mouth-piece and suck in cool, fresh water. I've used a hydration bladder such as CamelBak for many years while hunting and its by far the easiest way to carry and drink water in hot weather. TIP 3 - Special Drink Recipe for Hot Weather HuntingWhether I'm hunting in hilly, mountainous terrain or on the open plains during summer, I don't just drink plain water. Instead, I mix four teaspoons of sugar plus a quarter teaspoon of salt per quart of water. Drink mixtures like this gives you an energy boost, kills your thirst and helps you keep going without feeling exhausted. In all my years of hot weather hunting, the above tips have helped me enjoy hunting in such extremes. Shooting/Hunting WebsitesSite of the month...
